Eight arrested for cheating in exam; centre sealed

LAHORE: Punjab School Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat raided the City District Government High School Mozang on the cue of his undercover team where students involved in unfair means were caught red-handed during the ongoing Class-9 Annual Exam on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the minister said that Rana Sikandar called the SSP Operations and police officials concerned to the spot who arrested eight persons, including four private invigilators and two centre in-charges. The minister got the centre sealed under his supervision. The exam-taking students heaped complaints against the invigilators and revealed all the secrets. More than 500 students of the centre testified against the centre in-charge and invigilators and said that Rs30,000 for solving paper and Rs20,000 for MCQs were being demanded.

The minister said that cheating in the exams was unacceptable. There were complaints about this centre. He said that those who play with the future of the students would be discouraged in every way. Undercover teams are present across the province and are aware of every centre, he added.

In case of any complaint, immediate action will be taken. Chairman Lahore Board also took immediate notice of the matter and ordered an inquiry and while forming a committee, asked for a report within three days.

The minister also visited government schools in other areas, including Dev Samaj Road and Lawrence Road and observed the examination process.
