KP to set up liver and bone marrow transplant centres

PESHAWAR: The KP government has decided to establish liver and bone marrow transplant centres in the province.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur decided that while presiding over a meeting of the Health Department at Chief Minister’s House, said a handout issued here on Tuesday.

Provincial cabinet members - Health Minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah, Adviser on Finance Muzzammil Aslam — Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, administrative secretaries and experts from the health sector attended the meeting.

Various matters and proposals to materialize the decisions on the establishment of liver and bone marrow transplant centres came under discussion.

It was decided that initially, the liver transplant centre would be established at the Institute of Kidney Diseases Peshawar, and later, this centre would be shifted permanently to the under-construction building of Khyber Medical University.

The chief minister said the proposed centres were in line with the bids by the provincial government to provide quality healthcare facilities to people in KP.

He directed the Finance Department to provide funds required for the purpose on a priority basis.The meeting also decided to establish an institute of neurosurgery in the province. The proposed institute would be established at the Fountain House, Peshawar.

The chief minister directed the relevant officials to finalize the plans for establishing the proposed centres and institute and submit the same for approval.

He directed the officials concerned to ensure round-the-clock availability of dialysis services in all those government hospitals, wherein the facility already existed.“Necessary steps should be taken to start dialysis services at other government hospitals, where this facility is not yet available,” he said.
