Youth killed during robbery bid in North Karachi
Robbers on Sunday claimed life of another citizen for offering resistance during a mugging bid in Karachi. Following the incident, police high-ups suspended the SHO of the respective area and demoted him. The street crime incidents have so far claimed 44 lives in the city in 2024.
According to police, two assailants riding a motorcycle arrived at a shop in North Karachi Sector 5-L. One of them entered the shop to rob it and the other remained outside.
A 22-year-old shop employee, Abdul Rehman, tried to resist the robbery bit, which prompted the suspects to fire four shots. One of the bullets hit the young man in the neck and he died on the spot. The culprits managed to flee the scene.
The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors performed a post-mortem, following which police initiated legal proceedings and the body was handed over to the heirs.
DSP Wasim Ahmed said the deceased worked at an electronics shop as well as a foam shop. The victim's heirs appealed to the government and the country's president, Asif Ali Zardari, to ensure the arrest of the culprits involved in the incident and bring them to justice. Following the youth’s murder, the Karachi police chief suspended Bilal Colony SHO Shahzada Saleem and ordered an inquiry into the incident. The deceased man resided in Surjani Town Sector L-1.
