It is good to note that PM Shehbaz Sharif wants to increase the role and representation of provinces in governance and decision-making and allocate more funds. Apart from the steps that have been proposed by the government to increase the role of provinces, I suggest that the best way to increase the provinces’ roles, as per the constitution, is to devolve the maximum subjects and activities to these units and shrink the federal government’s role to a minimum. If Pakistan has to survive and develop, it must have strong provinces with full autonomy and the least federal interference. This is the only way forward.
