Cyclist killed in road accident

PAKPATTAN: A cyclist was killed in a road accident on Monday.
Maqsood Ahmad, 50, of Chak 149/EB was moving on a bicycle on the Sahiwal Road, Arifwala, when a speeding bus hit him, leaving him dead on the spot.
MAN ROBBED: A man was deprived of cash and his motorcycle on Monday.
Reportedly, Abid Hussain, of Chak 44/EB, was on the way to his village on his motorbike (SLZ-4244) when near the outhouse of Munir three robbers intercepted him and snatched his motorcycle, cash and a cell phone.
PO ESCAPES: A proclaimed offender (PO) escaped with the help of his accomplices on Monday. On a tip-off, police raided Chak 103/D to arrest Shaukat Ali, but he was alerted about the police by his two accomplices and fled. Police arrested his accomplices Waseem and another man and registered a case against them.
BUTCHER BOOKED: The veterinary officer raided a meat shop and booked its owner on charges of selling substandard meat.
Butcher Shahid of Railway Gate, Arifwala was allegedly selling substandard meat without the authorities’ stamps. Police has registered a case.
FAKE CHEQUE: Police booked a man on charges of issuing a fake cheque on Monday.
Reportedly, Rana Naeem Qaisar had purchased wheat of Rs 1,600,000 from Shafqat Ali of Pakpattan and gave him a cheque that bounced. Police have registered a case.
DRUG PEDDLERS HELD: Police Monday arrested drug peddlers and recovered narcotics from their possession.
Police arrested accused Jafar of Railway Gate, Pakpattan with 1,100 gram charas, accused Shahid Baig of Sakandar Chowk with 195 gram charas, accused Tauseefur Rehman of Railway Gate with 10 litres liquor, accused Waheed of Amaar Shah with a pistol, accused Riaz of Chak 34/EB with a pump-action shotgun. Police have registered cases.
MOCK EXERCISE: The DCO inspected the mock exercise of Rescue -1122 regarding extending help to the people in a flooding situation in Pakpattan.
Workers of the Rescue-1122 staff and other departments demonstrated how to save the people from flood water. ADC Pakpattan Arif Umar Aziz, Rescue-1122 District Officer Dr Tahir Mehmood and other officers were also present on the occasion. The DCO said all relevant arrangements were underway to extend help to the people in case of flood situation.
