Police kill notorious criminal after he shoots minor boy dead

A notorious criminal of Afghan origin was killed on Friday shortly after he killed a minor boy and wounded his uncle in the Sohrab Goth area.

The boy was killed and his uncle was wounded in a firing incident at the Misbah Hotel in Junejo Colony within the limits of the Sohrab Goth police station in the early hours of Friday. The deceased boy was identified as six-year-old Nasir, son of Qasim, and his injured uncle as Abbas, 20, son of Saeed Ahmed.

Abbas sustained injuries from a bullet hitting his back, while his nephew was shot in the head. The casualties were first taken to a private hospital on Shahrah-e-Pakistan. Later, the uncle was taken to the Civil Hospital, Karachi, for further medical treatment.

Abbas told the media that there was a dispute between the killed suspect and him during which the suspect opened fire, resulting in the death of his nephew and injuries to him. Police stated that they immediately took action upon receiving the information of the firing, and confronted the dacoit in the Sohrab Goth area. An exchange of the fire took place in which the suspect was killed. He was identified as Nasarullah, alias Rugh Liwane.

According to Sohrab Goth DSP Chaudhry Sohail Faiz, the killed suspect was of Afghan origin and a highly wanted criminal in the area. The officer said 10 cases were registered against him, nine of which were lodged at the Sohrab Goth police station and one at the Gabol Town police station.

The deceased suspect was a habitual criminal and he was involved in attacks on law enforcement agencies, DSP Faiz said, adding that a police team was immediately formed under the supervision of Sohrab Goth SHO Muhammad Shahzad Ilyas to investigate the firing incident and the suspect was killed in a police encounter following a search operation in Sohrab Goth.

The officer said the suspect fired as soon as he saw the police. He was killed when the police returned fire. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.

Arrests

Police claimed on Friday to have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in drug trafficking, smuggling, and other serious crimes. The suspects had been sent to jail after being named in more than 20 cases across various police stations. The arrests occurred during a raid conducted on a tip-off in Sohrab Goth.

According to DSP Chaudhry Sohail Faiz, these notorious drug dealers were apprehended during a major operation by Sohrab Goth police, leading to the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics. Acting on special intelligence, the police conducted the operation and arrested drug dealers, identified as Bahadur Gul, son of Kaku, and Akram, son of Akbar.

He stated that a significant amount of narcotics was recovered from the possession of the suspects, adding that the suspects were involved in drug trafficking, smuggling, and other serious crimes, and had been sent to jail after being arrested in more than 20 cases across various police stations.

Further details were being obtained from the Criminal Record Office. An FIR, under Section 9 (i) 3C of the Narcotics Act 2022, was registered against the suspects. Raids are underway to arrest their accomplices, and further investigations are ongoing.
