This refers to the letter, ‘Knowing the law’ (April 28) by Hashim Abro. One agrees with the writer’s point of view. The main reason for this state of unawareness is that the dissemination exercise of fundamental rights is largely done through seminars arranged in grand hotels that are out of the reach of a common man.
The government’s role in this regard is dismal, to say the least. Though institutions like the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan are doing a remarkable job in creating awareness about our fundament rights, they are not enough considering the size and diversity of our population. Therefore, fundamental rights and the responsibilities that come with them should be made part of the curriculum.
