ECP directs RO to accept nomination papers of Qaisara Elahi, others
ECP issued written instructions to the relevant Returning Officer to receive the nomination papers from the candidates
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Monday instructed the Returning Officer (RO) for Gujrat to promptly accept the nomination papers of five candidates, including Qaisara Elahi, who is the spouse of ex-chief minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi.
The ECP’s instructions came after the candidates had lodged complaints with it, alleging that the RO was absent when they attempted to submit their nomination papers for the by-election to the provincial constituency PP-32.
In response to these complaints, the ECP issued written instructions to the relevant Returning Officer to receive the nomination papers from the candidates.
The provincial seat of PP-32 had fallen vacant after Chaudhry Salik Hussain retained his National Assembly seat. The by-election for the constituency is scheduled for April 21.
