Wasa to hold weeklong awareness campaign
LAHORE: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has organised a week-long awareness campaign to celebrate World Water Day on March 22, 2024 (Friday).
Wasa Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed on Monday issued instructions to conduct a special awareness walk with the title ‘Save Water Save Life’ on 22nd March on World Water Day. Wasa Lahore will start a week-long campaign to create awareness among the general public, MD said, adding people now have to change their behaviour of using ground water to help in saving water. He said that strict measures should be taken to prevent wastage of water. He added that a fine of Rs10,000 would be imposed on domestic consumers and Rs20,000 on commercial consumers for water wastage as per the court order. Water supply to the consumers should be ensured and awareness should be provided to the people about making the water safe in the tanks of the houses, he concluded.
LWMC cleanliness drive continues
Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has intensified its efforts under the Suthra Punjab campaign, focusing on comprehensive cleanliness initiatives across all nine towns of Lahore.
Under the directions of LWMC CEO Babar Sahib Din, a targeted cleaning drive on Monday was conducted in Shalimar Town with meticulous manual sweeping and scraping covering the entirety of China Scheme Model Bazaar. The waste enclosure in Fazalpura has been successfully converted into a zero-waste zone, marking a significant achievement.
LWMC workers conducted cleaning operations at Madhu Lal Hussain Darbar, graveyard and the surrounding roads, with more than 850 sanitary workers and over 100 cleaning machines actively participating in the zero-waste initiative.
LWMC spokesperson Umar Chaudhary highlighted the company's commitment to ensuring cleanliness in both urban and rural union councils. Manual washing was carried out at various locations, including Neelam Cinema Commercial Market, Kotli Peer Abdul Rahman, Jameel Park, Jani Pura, and Muhammad Ali Shadi Hall.
Mechanical sweeping and washing were being conducted daily during both day and night shifts to preserve the city's aesthetic appeal. During Ramazan, town managers have been instructed to ensure 100pc attendance of workers in the field.
