Tech varsities’ VCs meet minister

LAHORE: Vice-chancellors of technical universities called on Minister of Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain at Tevta Secretariat.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the teaching process, development issues and future plans of the universities. The vice-chancellors of the universities informed the minister about the development problems of the technical universities. Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain while assuring solution to the problems of technical universities said, 'I will visit the universities soon to review the teaching process and problems.'

He said the usefulness and importance of technical education cannot be denied in present era, there is a need to develop skilled manpower according to the demand of the global market. The minister said that by solving the problems of technical universities, the universities will be made true centres of promotion of technical education.

We will change the destiny of the country by equipping the youth with modern sciences, he concluded. Secretary Industry and Commerce Ehsan Bhutta, Senior Economic Adviser Javed Iqbal and officers concerned were also present in the meeting. The vice-chancellors who met the minister included Mir Chakar Khan Rind, University of Technology DG Khan and Dr Mahmood Saleem of Rasool Technology University of Mandi Bahauddin.

PU students win runner-up trophy

Punjab University students participated in the 'UCP Taakra-24' organised by a private university and showed excellent performance and won the runner-up trophy and a cash prize of Rs500,000. Similarly, Rabia Zeeshan from PU College of Pharmacy won the runner-up trophy in the All Pakistan Faiz Ahmad Faiz declamation contest organised by MAO College, Lahore. Director Students Affairs Dr Muhammad Ali Kalasra congratulated the students for their achievements.
