PIA first in line for privatisation, says Aurangzeb
Aurangzeb highlighted the imperative role of the private sector in economic development
LAHORE: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said Saturday that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is prioritised for privatisation with other institutions to follow suit.
Speaking to the media after submitting his nomination papers for the Senate election here, Aurangzeb emphasised that it’s not the government’s role to engage in business activities; rather, its focus should be on policy formulation.
“Our agenda solely revolves around implementation and enforcement,” he asserted. He highlighted the imperative role of the private sector in economic development, noting ongoing discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to introduce reforms within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Expressing his contentment with obtaining Pakistani citizenship, he affirmed his commitment to staying in the country even after his ministerial tenure.Earlier, the finance minister submitted his nomination papers for a Senate seat from Punjab. The Senate elections, featuring 48 vacant seats, are scheduled for April 2 in the National Assembly, Senate, and the four provincial assemblies.
