Mayo won’t charge eye patients

LAHORE: King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayaz said that the eight-storey building of Mayo Hospital is in the final stages of repair and rehabilitation, where complete diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases will be available under one roof free of charge.

He said this while talking at the glaucoma awareness walk organized by College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences affiliated with King Edward Medical University (KEMU) here on Saturday.

Prof Mahmood Ayaz participated in the walk as a chief guest. The aim of the walk was to create awareness about cataract among the public. The walk started from the College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences, Mayo Hospital.

Principal College of Ophthalmology Prof M Moin, Registrar KEMU Prof Syed Asghar Naqi, Prof Saira Afzal, Prof Hammad Ayub, Prof Asad Aslam Khan, President OSP Prof Javed Chaudhry and other ophthalmologists also participated in the walk. The participants carried information and placards about glaucoma disease, its diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

KEMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayaz said that Glaucoma is a disease that can cause irreparable damage to vision and the loss of vision can be prevented by timely diagnosis and treatment of Glaucoma.

Prof Dr M Moin, Principal, College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences, said that the satisfaction is that with timely diagnosis and treatment, Glaucoma can be kept under control and one can save one's precious sight.

Prof Asad Aslam Khan said that glaucoma patients should follow their doctor's instructions for regular eye examinations for the health of their eyes.

Prof Ahsan Nauman, CEO Mayo Hospital Lahore, Prof Saira Afzal, Dean of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Prof Dr Suhail Sarwar, Prof Zahid Kamal Siddiqui, Prof Dr Syed Raza Ali Shah, Prof Dr Ali Ayaz Sadiq, participated in the walk along the faculty and students. Dr Nasir Ch, Dr Salman Hamza, Dr Saman Ali specially participated in the walk.
