Qirat competition arranged for youth

PESHAWAR: The Cultural Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran hosted the Third Provincial Qirat Competition to attract the youth towards the recitation of the Holy Quran.

Present on the occasion were Director General of the centre, Dr Hossein Chaghomi, Consul General of Iran Ali Banafshe Khah, Allama Abid Hussain Shakiri, Allama Nazir Hussain Muttahiri, Allama Syed Jameel Hussain Sherazi, Allama Maqsood Ahmad Salafi, Mufti Jameel Mansoori, Hafiz Syed Jamaluddin Tirmizi and Mufti Ahamd Ahmad Awan.

Qaris were divided into two groups-under and above 16 years. The completion was hosted in the Imam Khomeini Hall of the Khana-e-Farhang.The participants hailed from Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi Kohat, Parachinar, Hangu, Bannu, Mansehra and other KP cities.

The panel of judges included Qari Ustad Jamaluddin Tirmizi, Qari Mufti Aftab Ahmed Awan and Dr Hossein Chaghomi. Six excelling Qaris from the two groups were awarded cash prizes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hossein Chaghomi said the completion was hosted to create an environment in KP where the recitation skill of the youth was highlighted and they were attracted toward understanding the teachings of the Holy Quran. “The ultimate goal is to strengthen the unity among the Muslims,” said the head of the Iranian Cultural Centre who himself is a Qari.
