Islamabad: Celebrating International Women’s Day with vigour, six remarkable Pakistani women recently stepped into the diplomatic spotlight as ambassadors for a day, representing six different countries. Hosted by the Canadian High Commission at PNCA, the second annual ‘Ambassadors for the Day’ initiative aimed to provide young women with a first-hand experience of the responsibilities associated with being the head of mission for Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, and Bulgaria.

Aligned with the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ the program offered participants a unique opportunity to engage with diplomats, government officials, civil society, and media while delving into various cultural diplomacy activities. The initiative garnered widespread support from the diplomatic community in Pakistan, including the European Union Delegation, the embassies of Germany, Austria, and Bulgaria, the British High Commission, as well as the Pakistani government and cultural institutions.

The day kicked off with participants assuming their roles as heads of mission, meeting with their respective diplomatic teams, and taking charge of official social media accounts. They then engaged in an official lunch discussion with Senator Sherry Rehman, focusing on combating climate change and promoting women’s participation in politics. Continuing their diplomatic journey, the six ‘Ambassadors for the Day’ received a briefing from the Foreign Office spokesperson, gaining insights into Pakistan’s foreign policy and diplomatic affairs. The day culminated in a collaborative cultural diplomacy event at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), where the participants showcased their ambassadorial skills and toured guests around various art exhibits.
