Islamabad: The climate change ministry will introduce innovations in the urban planning to mitigate and adapt to the adverse impacts of the climate change under Pakistan Vision 2025.
The official data showed that various steps would be taken to achieve targets including recording the fuel and energy needs of the expanding cities; designing transport corridors for fast and efficient urban transportation; amending building laws to ensure that all new building are constructed using architectural designs appropriate to local climate; promoting lifestyle, adaptation, and choices; and exploring diversified patterns of low-carbon growth.
An official said Pakistan vision 2025 recognises global warming and climate change as an explicit area of engagement in its long-term planning and development and instituting project and non-project interventions in the vital areas of energy, agriculture, water, and food security.
He said the Disaster Risk Reduction Framework developed by National Disaster Management Authority is being implemented in the country in association with the provincial and metropolitan authorities.
The official said the Task Force on Climate Change established in the Planning Commission of Pakistan was elevated to a permanent Prime Minister’s Committee on Climate Change to enhance its role to cope with the adverse effects of the climate change.
