ISLAMABAD: District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjamand has adjourned the hearing until March 20 on the appeal of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi against the sentence in the Nikah case.
The court called for arguments at the next hearing.
Khawar Manika, the ex-husband of Bushra Bibi, appeared in court without legal representation, citing a shortage of time to get a lawyer.
Prosecutor Hasan Rana was also present. Meanwhile, PTI lawyers Usman Riaz Gul, Shiraz Ranjha, and Khalid Yusuf Chaudhry attended the session.
Bushra Bibi had filed a separate application for the suspension of her sentence, seeking bail pending the appeal decision.
The court, finding the appeal admissible, deferred the case to March 20.
Meanwhile, addressing the media outside the District Courts, Khawar Manika expressed his surprise at discovering the secret marriage, labelling it against Sharia law and causing distress to the children. He clarified that the case was not politically motivated and lamented the impact on his family life and property.
