‘Islam gives special respect, rights to women’
LAHORE : Ameer Uddin Medical College Principal Prof Al-Fareed Zafar has said that the religion of Islam has given special respect and rights to women, which we all have to uphold. He added that Islam is the only religion, which gives the rights of inheritance to women which resolved their deprivations forever.
He expressed these views while addressing the ceremony held in Lahore General Hospital to observe International Women's Day, in which Rizwana, a victim of domestic violence, who remained under treatment at LGH, attended as chief guest. Senior doctors cut the cake along with Rizwana while Principal SIMS Prof Zohra Khanum, Prof Ayesha Shaukat, Prof Nudrat Sohail, Prof Shamsa Humayun, Prof Tayyaba Waseem, Dr Laila Shafique, Dr Mehwish Ilyas including female doctors and nurses participated in large number. Addressing the event, Prof Al-Fareed Zafar said that in today's modern era, women are serving in the sectors of higher education, technology, medical science, business, defense and judiciary and they are fully active in all spheres of life. The principal indicated that our women are fully capable and expressing their skills adding that women are equally eligible, not less than men in any way. He further said that any society can develop only when women get their legitimate rights and they are allowed to play a role in the country for the national development. He announced that space will be allocated for Day Care Centre and breast feeding in LGH, AMC and PGMI so that female doctors and nurses can serve the poor humanity with full concentration by taking better care of their kids.
Prof Al-Fareed and other speakers said that before Islam, daughters were buried alive as they were born. They said that women all over the world should be grateful to the religion of Islam, which freed them from ancient slavery and gave a high position in the society by placing heaven under the feet of mothers.
At the end of the ceremony, the chief guest was also awarded with an honorary shield. The relatives of Rizwana thanked for saving the life of their daughter and make them able again to live a normal life after a critical condition.
