LAHORE:Youth Affairs and Sports Department Punjab organized a seminar in connection with International Women’s Day at SBP E-Library and Youth Centre on Friday.

The seminar was organised on the direction of Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Raja Jahangir Anwar and Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail.

Director Youth Affairs Rana Nadeem Anjum, Olympian Kh Junaid, senior journalist Iram Ghani, nutrition expert Sara Farooqi, Assistant Director Zarina Waqar, Ms Farhat, librarian Ms Shazia and other officials were also present on this occasion. Besides them, a large number of female students, athletes and women from different walks of life also attended the important seminar.

Journalist Iram Ghani spoke about the importance and rights of women. She said women's rights are increasingly coming under threat. One in every 10 women today lives in extreme poverty. Gender equality and women's rights are fundamental to Pakistan’s path within the Sustainable Development Agenda”.Nutrition expert Sara Farooqi said that a balanced and quality diet is very important for all women. “A healthy woman can play an important role in the establishment of a healthy society”. Olympian Kh Junaid threw light on the great role of women in Islamic history. He urged the youth to pay special respect to their mother and other women around them. Punjab University

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that a strong society will be made only by investing in women and taking care of their other rights. He was addressing the awareness walk to mark World’s Women Day here on Friday. On this occasion, MNA Malik Saif ul Malook Khokhar, Chairperson Department of Gender Studies Prof Dr Raa’na Malik, President PU Academic Staff Association Dr Amjad Magsi, faculty members and a large number of students were present.

In the rally taken out from the Department of Gender Studies to the Vice Chancellor's office, the participants carried placards with slogans regarding women's rights. In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood said that women should get all the opportunities to advance. He said that Islam was the first religion that gave rights to women. He said that women should get all rights including inheritance. He said that 50% of the students in PU were women and 90% of the gold medals were won by women in convocation. He said that women played an important role in solving the country's problems.

Women magazine launched

In connection with International Women Day, the University of Education (UE) organized an exhibition and a panel discussion besides the launching of the university’s first women magazine “SheShines”.

The UE Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Alam Saeed presided over the ceremony while the chief guest was Vice Chancellor of Pakistan Institute of Fashion & Design Prof Dr. Hina Tayyaba Khalil. A large number of students and faculty members including Dr. Samina Mazhar, Principal of UE Bank Road Campus, Dr. Muqaddas Butt, in-charge of Women Development Center were present on this occasion.

CBD Punjab

CBD Punjab reaffirms its commitment to supporting women's growth and empowerment, recognizing their vital role in society. The celebration culminated in a special cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing unity and solidarity in the pursuit of gender equality and women's empowerment.

UET

Society of female students ZIMAL at the UET Lahore organised a seminar, under the supervision of staff advisor Dr. Rehana Sharif, to celebrate International Women Day here on Friday.

The event was aimed to honor the achievements of women in various fields, particularly in engineering and technology and was attended by female faculty, staff and students of the university and females from different walks of life.

In this event various successful women participated as guest speakers and shared their success stories in their respective fields. In addition to the insightful speeches, the event featured engaging competitions, including Mehndi and Sketching competitions and a play.

University of Okara

University of Okara (UO) organised a seminar with the theme “Inspire Inclusion” in connection with International Women Day 2024 on Friday.

A large number of female teachers and students attended the seminar which was addressed by guest speakers Ms Sajida and Ms Rukhsana. The Chief Organizer of the seminar was Dr Nasrin Akhtar, Director Career Counselling at the UO.

Addressing the participants, Dr Nasrin argued that women had a pivotal role to play in every walk of life and without their inclusion in the social mainstream, there could be no development and prosperity. Ms Rukhsana talked about inclusion of women in the social mainstream and the reduction of gender discrimination.
