Victorious Rashid Malik eyes more titles
KARACHI: Former Pakistan Davis Cup star Rashid Malik returned home on Thursday after winning the ITF Masters Tennis Tournament MT200 title at the Topspin Sports Centre in Dubai with an enviable ease.
The top seeded Malik thrashed his opponents in one-sided encounters before beating second seed Andrzej Jermakow of Poland 6-1, 6-0 in the final. “I’m really pleased my showing in Dubai where I won my matches primarily because of my better fitness,” he told ‘The News’ after landing in Lahore where he was greeted by friends and tennis officials at the airport.
Malik said that his sights are now set on ITF Masters event in Thailand and the World Championship in Mexico next month. “I am in good shape and am looking forward to winning more titles for Pakistan,” said Malik.
