ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesperson Monday condemned ‘the police raid’ on the PTI-backed presidential candidate Mehmood Khan Achakzai’s residence.

“The police attack on Mehmood Khan Achakzai’s house is the state’s reaction to talking about supremacy of Constitution and democracy in parliament and stating the facts of electoral rigging,” he contended. The Constitution of Pakistan, he pointed out, provided constitutional protection to speeches made on the floor of the National Assembly and that targeting the elected representative of the people in the National Assembly with vengeance was an insult to the parliament. “The raid on the house of presidential candidate Mehmood Khan Achakzai ahead of the presidential election is a shameful attempt to influence the presidential election,” he said.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he alleged, had completely failed at every step in fulfilling the constitutional responsibility of maintaining transparency from the general election to the presidential election.

He said due to the dishonesty and biased attitude of the election commission, the elements violating the law were roaming around day and night, adding that unconstitutional tactics like illegal raids on houses could not force political leaders to backtrack on their stand. The spokesperson called for taking immediate notice of the raid on Achakzai’s house and said those responsible should be brought to justice.
