ABBOTTABAD: The Board of Governors (BoG) of Ayub Medical Teaching Institution (AMTI) Abbottabad has reversed its decision to reinstate two employees, including a former hospital director.

The two employees were dismissed in November 2020 after allegations of assaulting and thrashing the dean of Ayub Medical College in his office. The incident occurred on October 18, 2019, when a group raided the dean’s office and allegedly physically assaulted and humiliated him.

Following an inquiry, the BoG dismissed the individuals involved in the incident in November 2020. Subsequently, they filed an appeal before the KPK MTI Tribunal, resulting in a judgment on July 2, 2022.

The penalty imposed on Security Incharge Fareedon Khan Jadoon was reduced by demoting him, while Dr Khyal-ur-Rehman Afridi was removed from service. The 95th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG), chaired by Javed Ahmed Turk on March 2, 2024, referred to the approval of the 94th BoG meeting minutes, and it was noted that a decision had been altered contrary to the previous decision made.

The actual decision drafted stated that the Board would review the appeal of Dr Khyal Afridi and Fareedon Khan Jadoon in light of the inquiry findings of the provincial government, which had exonerated them.

The hospital director and medical director were instructed to present their case and records, supported by the government inquiry report, before the Board, after seeking input from relevant departments.

The Board reviewed notification BoG/MTI/2024/5684 dated February 28, 2024, and decided to hold it in abeyance until the committee’s report, as originally decided. The notification stated that the BoG allowed the appeal of both officials, Dr. Khyal-ur-Rehman Afridi and Fareedon Khan, based on the recommendations of the KP Health Department. They were to be reinstated with all back benefits following the inquiry report of the provincial health department, which had recommended their reinstatement.
