Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that setting up of National Commission on Human Rights is an important step towards maintaining GSP Plus status.
He was addressing a forum of stakeholders regarding GSP Plus status and human rights and future priorities of the country arranged by Democracy Reporting International. Peter Jacob, Anees-ur-Rehman, Bushra Khaliq, Sabira Asmat, Fauzia Waqar, IA Rehman, Iftikhar Rasool, Hassan Nasir, Irfan Mufti, Muhammad Rafique and others highlighted the significance of GSP Plus status and expressed their views regarding National Commission on Human Rights. Khalil Tahir Sandhu said that increase in exports was essential for strengthening national economy. He said that world was facing different problems, including poverty, shortage of resources and terrorism.
He said that monitoring mechanism was of vital importance for implementation of projects.
He said that people of Pakistan would directly benefit from GSP Plus status as it would result in increase in national exports and maximum investment. He said there was a need for activating human rights commission and said the government would continue to hold consultations with civil society and media for this purpose.
