LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan on Tuesday vowed to play his due role as the custodian of the House in the rule of law.
In his first interaction with the members of Punjab Assembly Press Gallery, the PA Speaker stated that media was not only the fourth pillar of state but also the reflection of society. He said the intellectuals were the real asset to the country and they deserved praise for fulfilling their duties despite all odds. He said like members of the assembly, the members of the journalist community also had their privileges.
Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, who has returned to PA for fourth term, stated that in previous tenure, the brutalities that were perpetrated were nothing less than a nightmare and the way people from outsides were brought to the floor of the assembly was an act never seen before. He said that media had a very significant role in moulding public opinion and attitude. He also said that being the Speaker, he would welcome all kind of healthy criticism and would take all-out measures to facilitate the media covering Punjab Assembly. Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, who hails from Kasur, stated that he himself was a lawyer and speaking in the assembly without knowing the Rules of the Procedures was nothing but a futile exercise. He said as the Speaker of the PA, his priority would be to ensure the rule of law.
