WANA: The “Plant for Pakistan” was inaugurated in Lower South Waziristan on Saturday.
Lower South Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan of formally inaugurated the campaign which was organised by Forest Department in the district. Fruit trees, including walnut, apple and apricot, were distributed among local farmers by three committees at the office of the Forest Department in Wana during the plantation campaign. The deputy commissioner said that Wana was an agricultural area, where a significant portion of the population depends on agriculture for their livelihoods. He highlighted agriculture as the backbone of economic stability for people, and said that planting fruit trees addresses economic challenges and enhances the beauty of the area.
Azmat Wazir from the Forest Department told the media that the fruit trees were provided to the farmers by the Food and Agriculture Organization. He said that approximately 25,000 fruit trees were distributed free of cost among the committees, whose heads allocated them to 2,000 farmers and landowners.
