A newly elected independent member of the Sindh Assembly from Ghotki, Nadir Akmal Khan Leghari, has announced his joining the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
Leghari, a seasoned politician and former Sindh minister, made the announcement after meeting the party’s leaders here on Monday. The meeting was attended by Sharjeel Inam Memon, Saleem Mandviwala, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Ali Gohar Mahar, and Khalid Lund.
Laghari, who has been elected to the provnial assembly seat PS-19 Ghotki-II, expressed his fullest trust in PPP leaders Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari. The PPP leaders welcomed him on joining the party.
“The PPP is my old party. I was sick. I contested the polls after recovery and secured a victory,” Leghari said. He said joining the PPP would help him a lot in delivering to the voters in his constituency facing massive backwardness and poverty.
He said he aimed to upgrade health, educational services, and facilities for youth in his constituency after joining the PPP. Laghari had served as Sindh irrigation and power minister from 2002 to 2007.
The PPP already has a simple majority in the Sindh Assembly and is set to form its government in the province for a fourth consecutive term. The inclusion of independent candidates is further strengthening the party’s numbers in the provincial legislature.
