ISLAMABAD: Amid the possibility of stiff resistance from provinces, the caretaker government has convened meetings of two important constitutional bodies including the National Economic Council (NEC) and the Council of Common Interests (CCI) on Monday for considering a summary to stop funding for provincial nature projects.

Interestingly, the caretakers also decided to unveil a ‘white paper’ before the upcoming general election to share the narrative of the interim regime about its performance since August 2023. The Ministry of Planning has been assigned the task of preparing the ‘white paper’ for presenting before the public the performance of the caretaker government.

The NEC is scheduled to be chaired by Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar on Monday, in which the main objective of five-year plan will also come under consideration, while a decision has been made that the full-fledged document of the 13th plan, along with its implementation, will be left to the government coming to power after the general election.

Although, the Ministry of Planning had formed different working groups and prepared a draft of the five-year plan, it was finally decided that the objectives of macroeconomic and social sector objectives would be shared with the NEC and then formal approval of the plan would be left to the next government.
