The notice has been issued to the mayor for participating in the ongoing election campaign of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

Officials said on Friday that the provincial election commission’s notice said that point 41 states as follows: “Political parties, candidates, their supporters, government and local government functionaries or elected representative, shall not announce or inaugurate, openly or in secret, their overall development schemes or development work or do anything which tends to influence the results of an election in favor of or against a particular candidate or political party after the announcement of the election programme till the day of polling and shall not give any subscription or donation., or make promise for giving such subscription or donation, to any institution of their respective constituency or to any other institution as well;

However, contrary to the above, your today’s press conference clearly gives an impression that you as Mayor Karachi Metropolitan Corporation are supporting a specific political party, your actions tend to influence the results of election in favor of that political party. Now therefore, you are required to clarify your position and submit your written reply latest by Saturday i.e. on January-27, 2024 failing which proceeding will be initiated against you as per law.”
