‘Promotion of Urdu language joint responsibility’

LAHORE:A one-day seminar was organised by Urdu Science Board (USB) regarding the publication and promotion of its publications on Friday.

Owners of various publishing houses, booksellers, academics and journalists attended the moot. Addressing the seminar, USB Director Zia Ullah Khan Toru said the trend of e-books and digital books was increasing due to internet and mobile phones, but the importance of printed books would never decrease.

He said education was closely related to language and the promotion of Urdu language was the national responsibility of all of us. He desired the support of publishing houses and booksellers for the promotion of its publications throughout the country. He said the Board would soon publish e-books in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board. Prof Dr Ilyas Ansari, Sajid Khan, Fazal Hussain Awan, Dr Usman Rafique, Ms Afshan, Principal CIMLA Academy, Dr Jameel Ahmed, Gul Faraz, Hamid Anwar, Muhammad Anwar Gondal, Abdul Wadood Alvi, Abdul Sattar Asim, Maqsood Ahmed, Muhammad Ashraf and Rehana Kausar also spoke.

The speakers presented useful suggestions on the quality and content of printed materials, marketing and sales of books. They suggested books be published on new scientific topics. USB Publications Officer Zaheer Khalid Qureshi, Research Officers Fatima Shahzai, Shaughfta Tahir and artist Syed Atiya Zahra also attended the moot.

Employability boot camp inaugurated

Employability boot-camp started at the Training Academy of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences on Thursday.

The boot-camp is organised by Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) whose Chairman Dr Shahid Munir inaugurated it. On the occasion, Dr Shahid Munir said the basic skills needed to deal with the challenges of the job market after graduation will be taught in the boot-camp. The aim of it is to harness the talents of graduates and make them contribute to the country's development.

He said the youth are the biggest asset of our country, 62 to 64 percent of the total population of the country consists of youth. He said it is our responsibility to train graduates for employment and economic empowerment.
