CM lays foundation of GOR-9 project

Around 29 houses will be built for officers of Punjab government at GOR-9 for which 56 kanals of land has been allocated

LAHORE:Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi laid the foundation stone of GOR-9 project at DHA Phase 9 here on Wednesday.

Around 29 houses will be built for the officers of the Punjab government at GOR-9 for which 56 kanals of land has been allocated. Secretary C&W gave a briefing about the master plan of GOR-9. The CM issued directions for the completion of this project at the earliest. Mohsin Naqvi while addressing the ceremony stated that earlier, the caretaker Punjab government laid the foundation stone for the construction of residences of low ranked government employees and now laid the foundation stone for the construction of the official residences.

Mohsin Naqvi apprised that 29 houses were going to be constructed in GOR-9. Hopefully, the residences will be built before the stipulated 15-month timeline. He stated that a consultation was being made jointly with the chief secretary for establishing one main GOR near the Mall Road so that the shortage of official residences can be fulfilled.

Orders allocating new site for driving licence

The chief minister visited the site being allocated for giving the car driving licence test at Gaddafi Stadium. He inspected the driving licence centre being allocated for the tests. Mohsin Naqvi while declaring the allocated place for taking the tests at the Gaddafi Stadium as inappropriate directed to establish eight centres at an appropriate place for the tests. He directed to functionalise them forthwith so that the citizens coming to take their tests should be provided ease and comfort. He directed to make excellent arrangements for the facilitation of citizens at the test taking site. IGP Dr Usman Anwar gave a briefing with regard to establishing a new site for conducting the driving test. The CM while talking with the media stated that there was a lot of public rush for obtaining the driving licences. We will select an appropriate site for the driving test centres and will apprise the citizens in this regard as well.

He disclosed that the driving licence fee would be increased four times from 16th January. Mohsin Naqvi stated that we are not going towards Journalists Colony’s phase but will decide about the working journalists across Punjab in coming few days. We are not deciding about any colony under the shadow of a press club but will announce for the working journalists across Punjab. The CM stated that the head of a parking company in Lahore was transferred due to different complains and the charge was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner. There is a parking mafia in Lahore, adding that they used to take contract initially and then got involved in a parking company in Lahore. The name of Lahore Parking Company was being used and the same mafia was running it. I got the complaints confirmed with regard to the parking problems and changed the head of the company. He said that the DeputyCommissioner was taking action with regard to overcoming parking problems and was submitting a report on daily basis.

Inspects JIC building

The chief minister inspected the under-construction building of Jinnah Institute of Cardiology (JIC) and directed to complete it within the time frame as the 256-bed facility spanning over 54 kanal would ease the patient load on PIC.

Meanwhile, the chief minister inspected the new commissioner's office building located at the former Navy War College in GOR-I. During the visit, he directed to transform the premises into a cutting-edge workplace. He set a 14-day deadline for the completion of furnishing. Simultaneously, the chief minister's regular inspection visits have significantly expedited the construction progress of a six-story building containing 24 police apartments in Qurban Lines.
