ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is in the process of closing all the pending inquiries and investigations against Nawaz Sharif and his family.
On January 1, 2024, the NAB on the recommendation of its Executive Committee closed the Sharif Trust case against Nawaz and others.
Sources said there are certain inquiries and investigations still pending with NAB against Nawaz Sharif, who with the support of NAB’s prosecution, was acquitted recently in Al-Azizia and Avenfield cases by the Islamabad High Court.
There is no detail available regarding the number of corruption inquiries and investigations against Nawaz Sharif still pending with NAB, FIA or other government agencies. The Panama JIT listed more than 30 investigations and inquiries against Nawaz Sharif and his family in 2017. The JIT had requisitioned from NAB, FIA and SECP cases inquired or investigated by these departments on allegations of corruption and corrupt practices by Nawaz and others.
The cases, references, investigations and inquiries against Nawaz and others, as reflected by the JIT in its report are: reference regarding purchase of helicopter (assets beyond known source of income); reference regarding huge increase in share deposits of Hudabiya Mills; reference regarding construction of palatial mansions and buildings in Raiwand Estate which are beyond known source of income; reference for willful default of loan payable to National Bank of Pakistan; investigation regarding acquisition of Avenfield properties in London (assets beyond known source of income); investigation for misuse of authority in sacking thousands of employees and appointing favourites at top positions in different departments; investigation regarding misuse of authority in illegal appointments; investigation regarding sale/purchase of demand urea fertilizer and causing loss of Rs158 million; investigation regarding leakage of secrecy about freezing currency accounts and transmitting $500 million abroad; investigation regarding settings up two sugar mills in Kenya; investigation over misuse of authority in provision of amenities to Raiwand Estate through different government departments; investigation regarding import of BMW cars; investigation over misuse of authority in import of damaged fertilizer from China causing loss of Rs52 million to national exchequer; investigation regarding misuse of authority in award of 15 acres land to M/s REDCO at Murree; investigation regarding purchase of BIRD Lodge Murree; investigation over misuse of authority in granting illegal promotion in FIA; investigation for alleged misappropriation in afforestation along Motorway M-2; investigation regarding illegal appointment in PIA; investigation over misuse of authority in granting illegal benefit to M/s KEL; investigation regarding illegal allotment of plots in LDA; investigation regarding misuse of authority in grant of contract for import of wheat to his own company; investigation regarding assets beyond known source of income (benami investigation in Hudabiya Engineering Company); investigation regarding acquisition of land through coercion in/around Raiwand (assets beyond known source of income); investigation in the matters of Sharif Trust; investigation over misuse of authority in construction of road to Raiwand Estate; investigation regarding construction of flat and mansions and buildings; illegal allotment of plots in LDA; FIR no 12/1994 against Huddabiya Engineering Pvt.
