Increasing trend in prices of perishable items witnessed

LAHORE:The new year has started with increasing trend in the prices of almost all essential perishables expect few due to their peak seasonal production.

The highest increase was recorded in the price of chicken meat with a rise of Rs93 per kilogram on weekly basis while the official rates were also not implemented. Further, the other meat sellers have also openly violated the official rates. The beef was sold at Rs900-1,200 per kilogram while mutton was sold at Rs2,400-2,600 per kilogram.

On the other hand, the district administration remained unable to implement the official rates at mega supper stores of local and international chains. The district administration issued the rates of mixed meat while they sold only neck and chest meat at official rates while rest of the parts of the animals are sold at the highest rates.

An official of one of the stores located at Lahore airport said that the management of the store had restricted the store admin to sell mix meat neck and check only at official rates while other parts of the animal shall be sold at higher rates. He claimed that the district admin is ‘on board’ with the management of the store so no action would be taken against them.

The price of chicken was further gained by Rs64 per kg, fixed at Rs400-415 per kg, sold at Rs440-480 per kg, and chicken meat by Rs93 per kg, fixed at Rs602 per kg, and sold at Rs600-1,300 per kg. The price of potato soft skin new A-grade reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs46-50 per kg, B-grade by Rs6 per kg, fixed at Rs40-44 per kg, and C-grade gained by Rs7 per kg, fixed at Rs35-38 per kilogram, mixed sold at Rs60-80 per kg.

The price of onion A-grade unchanged at Rs168-175 per kg, sold at Rs220 per kg, B-grade gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs153-160 per kg, sold at Rs170-180 per kg, and C-grade fixed at Rs135-140 per kg, sold at Rs150 per kg.

The price of tomato A-grade increased by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs120-125 per kg, sold at Rs160-200 per kg, B-grade by Rs35 per kg, fixed at Rs110-115 per kg, sold at Rs140-150 per kg.

The price of garlic local was gained by Rs5 per kg, at Rs400-420 per kg, sold at Rs500 per kg, and Garlic China by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs530-550 per kg, sold at Rs700 per kg.

The price Ginger Thai further increased by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs415-430 per kg, sold at Rs500 per kg, Garlic Indonesia by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs300-315 per kg, sold Rs400 per kg.

Cucumber Farm gained by Rs18 per kg, fixed at Rs50-53 per kg, sold at Rs100-120 per kg. Bitter gourd price unchanged at Rs210-220 per kg, sold at Rs500 per kg.

The price of Spinach farm reduced by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs30-33 sold at Rs50-60 per kg, spinach local unchanged at Rs57-60 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. Carrot Chinese reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs115-120 per kg, sold at Rs250 per kg, carrot local unchanged, fixed at Rs48-50 per kg, sold at Rs60-80 per kg.

Turnip was reduced by Rs7 per kg, fixed at Rs43-45 per kg, sold at Rs60-100 per kg. Fenugreek (Methi) gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs95-100 per kg, sold at Rs160 per kg. Pea price increased by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs170-175 per kg, sold at Rs200-240 per kg.

The price of different variety of apples further gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs60-285 per kg, sold at Rs200-500 per kg. The price of Banana A-category reduced by Rs10 per dozen, fixed at Rs140-145 per dozen, sold at Rs200 per dozen, and B-category fixed at Rs95-100 per dozen, sold at Rs140-150 per dozen, and C-category fixed at Rs70-75 per dozen, sold at Rs120-130 per dozen.

Pomegranate danaydar reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs355-370 per kg, sold at Rs500 per kg, Pomegranate kandhari gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs300-310 per kg, sold at Rs400 per kg, Pomegranate bedana fixed at Rs600-620 per kg, sold at Rs800-1,000.

Guava was fixed at Rs68-135 per kg, sold at Rs130-250 per kg. Musami was reduced by Rs15 per dozen, fixed at Rs65-105 per dozen, sold at Rs180-200 per dozen.

Fruiter was further increased by Rs15 per dozen, fixed at Rs90-155 per dozen, sold at Rs200-250 per dozen. Citrus fruit price increased by Rs15 per dozen, fixed at Rs85-165 per dozen, sold at Rs200-300 per dozen.
