Imran says he will take to streets if commission not formed

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday said his party would have no other option but to take to the streets if the judicial commission was not formed to investigate rigging in the 2013 general elections.
“As many as seven million extra votes were polled for the PML-N to help it win the polls,” he alleged while talking to mediapersons here.
Imran said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would extend the dispute resolution councils (DRCs) throughout the province, particularly in the rural areas, to settle the issues of the public at their doorsteps.
“The DRCs are doing an excellent job. I was told that an eight-year old dispute was settled through the DRC within a few days. Now the system will be extended to all parts of the province, particularly to the rural areas,” the PTI chief told journalists at the office of the Superintendent of Police, Cantonment.
He said they were going to give a proper structure to the DRCs due to their commitment to ensure the rule of law. He asked the public to approach the DRCs or the local jirgas that comprise people with good reputation to get cheap and easy justice.
The PTI chief spent a busy Saturday with the police in Peshawar. He, along with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani, visited the Police Access Service at the Central Police Office, attended a briefing at the School of Investigation in Hayatabad, paid a visit to the Control Room in East Cantonment Police Station, visited the DRC in Cantonment and laid floral wreaths at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.
“The police force of KP is going to become an example for the rest of the country. The police in Sindh and Punjab are not doing well as these forces are politicised and that is why the Rangers had to be used for action in Karachi,” Imran Khan said.
He added the KP police did not lodge a single case against political rivals while the Punjab police have lodged FIRs against rivals, including himself and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.
He lauded Pervez Khattak and Nasir Khan Durrani, saying it was only because of their efforts that the police force in the province had been depoliticised. “Nobody interferes in the affairs of the KP police. The IGP is posting all his officers on merit and the same is the case at the lower level,” he maintained.
The PTI chief appreciated the Police Access Service under which everyone can lodge a complaint via SMS, email or a phone call.
“We are going to advertise the Police Access Service through billboards so more people learn about it and approach the police in case of any complaint,” he said.
He added that the SOS service for schools has also been launched so that the police could respond to any school in case of need.
Imran said they were developing a system under which cops would be awarded in the province for exhibiting extraordinary bravery. He added there were plans to increase the salaries and benefits of the cops who have already contributed a lot.
