Malir DC put on notice on plea against encroachment on land for graveyard
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notices to the Malir deputy commissioner and others on a petition against encroachments on an amenity land reserved for a graveyard in the Shah Latif Town area.
The petitioners, Mohammad Nawaz Khan and others, submitted in the petition that around 47 acres of land reserved for the proposed graveyard near Sherpao Colony in Shah Latif Town had been illegally occupied by land grabbers.
Their counsel, Usman Farooq, submitted that various complaints had been sent to the revenue and other relevant authorities against encroachment and illegal possession of the government land but no action had so far been taken for removal of such encroachment.
The counsel submitted that the government land reserved for a graveyard had been encroached by some unscrupulous elements in connivance with official respondents.
The high court was requested to direct the district administration and others to take action against such encroachment and illegal possession of the government land reserved for a graveyard and restore it for the amenity purpose.
A division bench of the high court headed by Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi after a preliminary hearing of the petition issued notices to the Malir deputy commissioner and others and called their comments by January 25.
The high court in the meantime directed the official respondents to ensure that if the subject land was reserved and allotted for the purpose of graveyard, it shall not be allotted, and take appropriate action against such unscrupulous persons in accordance with the law and submit the compliance report.
Non-supply of water
The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued notices to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, Faisal Cantonment Board and others on a petition against non-supply of water to residents of the Gulshan-e-Jamal area.
Petitioners Naeem Akhtar submitted that they were residents of Gulshan-e-Jamal that had been provided water connection by the KWSC. They said they had a valid water connection but no water was being supplied to the locality by the civic agency.
They said the provincial ombudsman had also directed the authorities to provide water to the residents but the KWSC failed to implement the order.
The high court directed the KWSC, Faisal Cantonment Board and others to file their comments on the next hearing.
