So far no decision has been made regarding whether or not Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will contest the coming general elections from Karachi.

Karachi PPP President Saeed Ghani, who served as the labour minister in the last elected Sindh government, said this while addressing a press conference on Saturday.

He claimed that unfair means were used to ensure the defeat of Bilawal from the Lyari constituency in the 2018 general elections.

He added that the PPP would announce its chosen candidates for the upcoming elections in a few days.

He reiterated the stance of the PPP that every contesting political party should get a level playing field in the upcoming elections.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) should have conducted the intra-party polls as per the lawful procedure laid down by the Election Commission of Pakistan, Ghani said, adding that former prime minister Imran Khan was involved in vicious attempts to render the Pakistani armed forces, judiciary and the ECP controversial.

He said no relaxation should be offered to Imran Khan merely on account of his status as the leader of a major political party.

Ghani also called for the courts to fairly conduct the trials involving the PTI leader. He, however, clarified that he did not wish that Khan were unfairly treated.
