Parliamentary supremacy
This letter refers to the article ‘Beyond the election’ (December 21, 2023) by Kamila Hyat. I agree with the writer about the fundamental need in Pakistan for both free and fair elections for the establishment of a strong democratic system that is able to make real and far-reaching changes in the lives of the millions of ordinary Pakistanis. I would like to add that such a system would necessarily have to have full control and say over all branches of government.
No more adventurism, no more usurpation of the constitution, no more extraneous interference in political matters and the running of the country. Parliament must be sovereign. I think it is very important for people now to come out in large numbers during the coming elections and vote for such a system and for real change.
