NCHR received 3400 complaints in last year
Islamabad: National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) has received over 3,400 complaints in the past year. Notable interventions include addressing forced religious conversions, safeguarding women’s rights, combatting torture in prisons, and advocating for the rights of transgender individuals and sacred places of worship.
Details of the NCHR’s last year performance were shared by Chairperson NCHR, Rabiya Javeri Agha at a gathering of distinguished leaders and prominent human rights advocates on the occasion of Human Rights Day hosted by President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi on Friday.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Human Rights and was aimed at providing an opportunity to showcase achievements made in advancing human rights in Pakistan. On the occasion, the Chairperson NCHR, Rabiya Javeri Agha highlighted the strides made by NCHR since its revival after a two-and-a-half-year gap. Initially facing severe challenges such as a limited budget, staff shortages, and ambiguous mandates, she informed how NCHR has now expanded its reach and fortified its credibility.
