Concern over hike in medical colleges' fee
LAHORE: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed grave concern over the increase in fees of medical colleges in the country.
‘This sudden and intense escalation of tuition fees poses significant challenges to aspiring medical students and their families, as it significantly limits access to quality medical education,’ said Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, Honorary Secretary General PMA (Centre), in a statement issued Thursday.
The PMA believed that the increasing cost of medical education would have adverse effects on the healthcare system in the long run. With higher tuition fees, only those from affluent backgrounds will be able to pursue a career in medicine, resulting in a lack of diversity and representation among the medical professionals.
The PMA demanded the government closely monitor and regulate tuition fee increases, as well as implement policies that promote affordable medical education.
