The Karachi police on Wednesday engaged in four separate encounters and arrested six allegedly notorious robbers, including an Afghan national. The suspects were said to be wanted by the police in street crime cases.

An encounter occurred between suspects and the Sachal police in which an allegedly wanted robber was arrested with injuries. District East police chief SSP Irfan Ali Bahadur said the encounter took place at Faria Chowk.

SSP Bahadur said the suspects were fleeing from the city when the police arrived on the scene. Upon seeing the law enforcers, he added, the suspects started firing.

The officer said the police retaliated and arrested a “most-wanted” suspect named Mustafa with injuries, while his accomplice managed to escape. He said the police seized a pistol, snatched mobile phones and a motorbike from the suspect.

In an encounter in District Central, the Rizvia Society police arrested two suspected robbers with injuries during a shoot-out. Officials said three suspects had escaped from a shop in Ali Basti, Peetal Gali, after committing a robbery.

They said the police chased the suspects after receiving information of the incident. The suspects barged into a house in Mohammadi Masjid near Waheedabad, where the suspects opened fire on the police, they added.

Police claimed that a woman was also injured by a bullet fired by one of the suspects. They said the law enforcers retaliated and arrested two ‘robbers’ in an injured condition, adding that their accomplice took advantage of the darkness and hid in one of the narrow streets.

Police have cordoned off the area and a search operation is under way to arrest the third suspect. The injured suspects have been identified as Nawab and Abid. Police claimed to have seized two TT pistols, 30-bore round magazines, nine mobile phones and two motorbikes from them.

The District Keamari police arrested an allegedly notorious robber of Afghan origin with injuries after an encounter in the Baldia No. 4 area. Police claimed that the suspect is a habitual criminal with past record.

The suspect was identified as Khalilur Rehman, alias Abdullah. Officials said that an illegal pistol and a motorbike were seized from him. They also said the suspect had gunned down his wife and sister-in-law in 2017. His three-month-old daughter had also been injured in the incident, they added.

Police said that in 2018 the suspect had killed a man during a robbery at a shop in the Taimuria police jurisdiction. He was also involved in a case of motorbike snatching in the Shahrah-e-Noorjahan police jurisdiction, they added.

The Gulberg police arrested a suspected robber with injuries after an encounter, along with his accomplice. Police said they were patrolling the area when they saw two men on a motorbike trying to speed away near the Ayesha Manzil Bridge in the FB Area’s Block 10.

Police said they chased them, but the suspects resorted to firing. Officials said they retaliated and arrested both suspects, one of them in an injured condition. The injured was identified as Armanullah, while his accomplice as Saifullah.
