Joint efforts to promote education stressed
LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that joint efforts were needed to promote education for the development of the country.
He was addressing the 3rd National Conference on Research Education (NCOR) organised by the Punjab University Institute of Education and Research (IER) on the theme of ‘Higher Education Institutions and Governmental Priorities.’
On this occasion, Director IER Prof Dr Tariq Mehmood Chaudhry, Chairman Department of Advanced Studies in Education Prof Dr Muhammad Shahid Farooq, researchers, academicians, faculty members and students were present.
In his address, PU VC Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the development of higher education in Pakistan must be among the top priorities of any government. Unfortunately, he said, our society also did not give importance to education.
He demanded the government allocate appropriate grants to run the universities. He said that PU was facing problems due to the lack of appropriate financial assistance received by the federal government for the last six years. He said that the promotion of knowledge and research was possible only when all the institutions, working for education, would play their role with full force.
UVAS orientation programme
The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised an orientation programme for newly-admitted students of various undergraduate degree classes here on Tuesday.
While students from other campuses of UVAS, including Ravi Campus Pattoki, CVAS Jhang and KBCMA-CVAS Narowal attended this ceremony through a video link.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the programme while Convener Admission Committee/Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof Dr Muhammad Azam, Chairman Department of Parasitology/Principal Students Affairs Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Registrar Sajjad Hyder and students with their parents and senior faculty members and administrative officers of UVAS were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad congratulated the students and said every year UVAS was providing scholarships to a large number of talented students on merit and among 9,000 students every sixth student was a recipient.
