NAPA hosts classical music concert
The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) and All Pakistan Music Conference on Sunday organised an evening of Indian classical music featuring Sham Chaurasi Gharana’s Ustad Shafqat Salamat Ali Khan.
The concert was held at NAPA’s Zia Mohyeddin Theater with a large number of music lovers in attendance.
The event kicked off with performances of Shafqat’s sons Nadir Ali Khan and Faizan Ali Khan. Later, the two were joined by their father. Towards the end, the Ustad sang some thumris and even ghazals on requests.
The audience enjoyed the concert as Shafqat demonstrated how ably he had been carrying forward the formidable legacy of his legendary father Ustad Salamat Ali Khan and his Gharana that successfully combines the styles of Dhrupad, Kaafi, and Khayal.
Renowned for his tayyari and laey-kari, the performer also sang semi-classical styles of Indian classical music.
