Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Sial has told the police to make all-out efforts to control street crimes in Karachi.

He was presiding over a meeting on Saturday to review the law and order situation and the measures the police had taken for curbing street crime in the metropolis.

The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police A D Khowaja, Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Mehar, the DIG Admin, the Karachi Range DIGs, the district SSPs and the SSP investigations.

The Sindh Police spokesman said the home minister reviewed the current year’s crime statistics compiled by the Karachi Police and compared it with those of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee. He told the officers to discharge their duties with utmost responsibility and professional acumen.

He directed the police to streamline and strengthen coordination with the CPLC and start community policing projects in markets and other business areas.

The officials were also directed to ensure random snap-checking, picketing and strengthening the advance intelligence collection system. They were further told to ensure action against gangs or individuals involved in street crimes.

IGP Khowaja asked the Karachi police chief and other police officials to raise a motorcycles squad to check street crimes in the city.

“Such motorcycle squads be raised at districts level and personnel should be detailed to perform the responsibility,” he added.

The provincial police chief directed the Criminal Record Office to devise an efficient system in consultation with the National Database Registration Authority for keeping a biometric record of the arrested accused.

He said the project for the establishment of police facilitation centres for public convenience/assistance would be completed by July 2016.
