CEC for necessary steps to protect voters in KP

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on Wednesday called for necessary steps for peaceful conduct of elections and said the top priority should be given to protection of voters in view of the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The newly-installed caretaker Chief Minister of KP, Justice (retd) Arshad Hussain, on Wednesday gave an assurance to Raja of full cooperation to ensure transparent elections in the province.

The caretaker chief minister called on the chief election commissioner here at the Election Commission Secretariat. He briefed the CEC on preparations for elections in the province. He promised that the provincial government in collaboration with the commission would ensure fair elections in the province.

The CEC congratulated the caretaker CM on assuming office and said that keeping in view the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, necessary steps should be taken for peaceful conduct of general elections, in which safety of voters should be given top priority.

Raja informed Arshad that ECP officials would soon visit KP to review preparations for the elections.
