Call for action over sexual violence incidents at hospitals

War Against Rape (WAR) has vehemently condemned the recent incidents of sexual violence at two hospitals of the country and called for immediate justice for the victims and strict action against the perpetrators.

The statement was issued following Wednesday's molestation attempt on the mother of a child by a sweeper at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in Karachi, which was preceded by a sexual assault on a 22-year-old patient at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in the federal capital, Islamabad.

The organisation demanded of the authorities to probe both the matters fairly and serve justice to the victims.

It urged the federal government to immediately take strict actions against the perpetrators instead of barring the media from the coverage of such heinous incidents.

The organisation also expressed its displeasure on how some people with political influence at the NICH got the alleged molester released and let him escape after he was held on the spot by security guards.

However, on the complaint of the affected woman, the Saddar police lodged a case and later arrested the suspect near the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The organisation also offered the NICH management to get its staff trained to help them play their role against such crimes.

The press release also said the government was ignoring the implication of such tragic incidents as a result of which violence against children and women, including rape cases, were increasing in the country.
