Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Fan’ being released today

KARACHI: The wait is over, the biggest superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s eagerly awaited film ‘Fan’ is now ready for opening in Pakistan and around the world with a bang. It’s Shah Rukh Khan’s biggest film after RA. The entire world is waiting for the Fan movie.

A fan’s journey from admiration to dark obsession is the theme of Shahrukh Khan’s new film — and SRK’s real-life fans cannot wait to see how he manages to portray both a 50-year-old movie star and a 25-year-old megafan.

The film, Fan, which tells the story of Gaurav, a Bollywood-obsessed man who goes from hero worshipper to sociopath, was directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Films. Geo Films is releasing this film throughout  Pakistan.

Bollywood has never gone in much for prosthetic make-up effects but in this film they have been used extensively to create a more youthful-looking Khan. SRK said motion capture was also used, which involved scanning his face in a studio to capture all his facial expressions for digital effects. He believes this is a first for the Indian cinema.

“After Fan, everybody will look up to Hindi films in terms of what we can do with visual effects and make-up,” he recently told Geo News.

The female stars are relatively unknown. They include Goan model Waluscha De Sousa, who is making her Bollywood debut. De Sousa, who plays Khan’s wife, is not yet famous in India, although she has appeared in a few ads with SRK.

The theme song, Jabra Fan, is an ode to Gaurav’s obsession, albeit in a humorous, light-hearted way. “He’s not just a star, he’s my world,” he croons. The song has close to 20 million hits on YouTube and, capitalising on this, the soundtrack features nine versions of the track in a variety of languages: Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Arabic, The music is by Vishal and Shekhar, the Hindi lyrics by Varun Grover. The trailer has racked up more than 16 million views.

Shah Rukh Khan’s first film of 2016 is the most awaited Fan. The film is already trending thanks to the plot, SRK’s double role and the popularity of Jabra Fan song.

Fan has Shah Rukh Khan playing movie superstar Aryan Khanna and his most ardent fan Gaurav, and also stars Waluscha De Sousa and Sayani Gupta. The film is all about the brittle dynamics between the superstar and his fan, and how their equations change after one moment of truth.

Why should you watch it? That’s easy. Shahrukh Khan has returned in a double role where one is completely different than the other. Apart from an uncanny resemblance between the two, there is hardly anything that can make you spot the similarities. It is a unique attempt by Shahrukh Khan and deserves to be watched at least once if not more. It also brings forth a side of SRK’s acting talent that we have been missing since a few years now. Something that Swadesand Chak De India made us feel proud of. But above all, it is a film made by a fan for the fans of one of the biggest superstars. Watch it for sure!

The advance booking of Fan, which will be released in theatres on April 15, have commenced in India on a good note. The film releases across more than 3,500 screens.
