Iqbal’s message must be conveyed to new generation: PU VC
LAHORE: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood said the poetry of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal teaches us that religion and the world are not separate.
Addressing a special session of a three-day international conference on ‘Iqbal’s Ideology of Peace & Progress’ jointly organised by Punjab University Department of Persian, Punjab Higher Education Commission, Lahore College for Women University and University of Home Economics at Al Raazi Hall, the vice-chancellor stressed the need of more measures to convey Dr Allama Iqbal’s message to the new generation.
He said Iqbal’s poetry awakened a new spirit in the youth. He said from the current global issues’ perspective, the thoughts of Dr Allama Iqbal are quite relevant and true. The Vice-Chancellor said living nations listen, know their ancestors, and act.
Chairman Qasim Ali Shah Foundation Qasim Ali Shah said one should follow the philosophy of Dr Allama Iqbal to move forward in life and be free from fear. University of Jhang Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nabila Rehman, Chairman Department of Persian Prof Dr Muhammad Nasir, faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Debating Society and Character-Building Society of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, organised an open mike session along with question and answer session to mark Iqbal Day in a befitting manner.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad highlighted the efforts of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal especially his role in the creation of Pakistan. He said the best way to pay homage to Dr Allama Iqbal was to implement his thoughts and philosophy.
Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Senior Tutor Officer Prof Dr Ali Raza Awan, Convener Character-Building Society Prof Dr Mian Abdul Hafeez and students of different departments were also present on the occasion.
PU awards PhD degree
Punjab University has awarded PhD degree to Zahid Farooq in the subject of Islamic Studies after approval of his thesis entitled ‘Contemporary Laws of Political Asylum: A Study in the Context of Islamic Sharia’.
Road safety seminar
Scouts Club of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the Youth Parliament and National Highway Police organised an informative road safety awareness seminar at City Campus in which attendees gained valuable insights from SP National Highway and Motorway Police Shahbaz Alam while Malik Meraj Saleem from the youth parliament emphasised the crucial role of young people in promoting road safety.
