ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain has designated Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar to administer oath to newly-elected 52 members of Senate on March 12 and he will also chair the proceedings for the office of new chairman of the Upper House.
He will resume his seat in the house immediately upon administering oath of the new chairman. The new chairman will conduct the election of the deputy chairman and administer oath to him.
Meanwhile, sources told The News that a proposal for deputing outgoing Chairman Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari to administer oath from the senators wasn’t approved. It is likely that election for four seats from Fata will be completed by tomorrow (Saturday) and so the elected members will also take oath with other members on Thursday next. The returning officer stalled the election process of four members from Fata on Thursday on the instructions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after dispute on procedure of voting.
