KARACHI: Former MQM leader Waheed Zaman who joined Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party two days back is a grade 18 officer of Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

According to the documentary evidence available with The News, Zaman who was appointed to the KPT in 2012 as Senior Public Relations Officer (PRO) was terminated in August 2015 but the Sindh High Court suspended the termination order and issued a stay in favour of Zaman.

After the SHC order, Zaman not only rejoined the KPT, but also filed a contempt of court case for not issuing his salary which is still pending. According to the law no government employee could join politics or any political party.

On Monday, Waheed Zaman formally joined Pak Sarzameen Party along with another former leader of APMSO Muhammad Raza and other associates. Talking to The News, Waheed Zaman first said he had been terminated. However, when he was reminded that the Sindh High Court had suspended the order of his termination and he not only rejoined the KPT, but also filed a contempt of court petition against the management for not issuing his salaries, he agreed to this point and said the matter was pending with the court.

Zaman said he was terminated over a wrong allegation and that’s why the court issued orders in his favour.  Karachi Port Trust spokesman confirmed that Waheed Zaman was serving the Trust.
