Aqeel moves into Modern Club Championship second round

KARACHI: Aqeel Khan moved into the second round of men’s singles at the 2nd Modern Club Members National Ranking Tennis Championship here on Friday.

He defeated Zuhaib Gul from Hyderabad 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. In other matches, Faizan Khurrum beat Sheeraz Bhand 6-0, 6-0; Muzammil Murtaza beat Ibrahim Iltafat 6-3, 6-4; Hira Ashiq beat Sahibzada M Ali 6-4, 6-2.

Raza Sawani beat Murad Khan 6-1, 6-1; Haris Irfan-ul-Haq beat Marib Malik 6-0, 6-0; Abdal Haider beat Nadir Bachani 6-0, 6-0; Muhammad Mudassir beat Wasil Raza 6-1, 6-1; and Abdul Majeed beat Usman Akram 6-0, 6-2.

Abid Mushtaq beat Bilal Khan 6-0, 6-0, while Abdul Rehman got walkover against Faheem Ramzan and Farhan Altaf got walkover against Kaleem Ghanchi.

Earlier, in the men’s singles qualifying round two Wasel Raza beat Salman Ahmed 6-3, 3-6, 7-6; Usman Akram beat Aamir Tunio 7-5, 6-1; Bilal Khan beat Zeeshan Bachani 6-3, 6-3; Sheeraz Bhand beat Adeel Khan 6-0, 2-0 (retired); and Faheem Ramzan beat Bilal Soomro 6-2, 6-4.

Amanvel Anwar got walkover against Shoaib Abbas and Faran Altaf got walkover against Azhar Katchi.

In the under-12 first round, Zain Ehtisham beat Abdullah Imran 8-4; Ibrahim Nouman Yousuf beat Hasnain 8-0; and Taha Aman beat Sarim Imran 8-4.

In under-14 first round, Abdul Samad Arejo beat Ghufran Faiz 6-2, 6-3; Yahya Ehtisham beat Faroq Atiq 6-2, 6-2; Rayyan Suhail beat Ibrahim Khan 6-3, 7-6; Rayyan Sohail beat Ibrahim Khan 6-1, 6-1; M Dada beat Ibadurrehman 6-0, 6-0; Abdullah Khan beat Taha Aman 6-1, 6-0; and Houd Azhar beat Saim Danish 6-0, 6-0.

In the under-16 first round, Shahzil Malik beat Samiullah Khan 6-0, while Kaleem Ghanchi beat Noman Farid 6-2, 6-4 in the 35 singles first round.

Raza Sawani beat Nosher Anwar 6-0, 6-1 and Mujahidullah Khatak beat Shabbir Muhammad 6-3, 6-3 in the under-18 first round.

Azhar Katchi got walkover over against Rayyan Jawad and Shahzil Malik got walkover against Houd Ahzar.
