‘Number of diabetics on rise in Pakistan’

Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital (PGMI/LGH) Principal Prof Khalid Mahmood has said that diabetes is a fast increasing disease throughout the world which is silently killing the human beings. The most dangerous type of diabetes is Type-2 as it is not sensed by the patient apparently, he said. Everyone should approach doctor regularly for diabetes check-up in order to stop its possible advancement.

The principal, in a statement issued in connection with World Health Day here Wednesday, said that going to toilet repeatedly, feel unusual thirst, weight reduction, weakness and delayed recovery of wounds are the symptoms of diabetes and such patients must visit doctor immediately.

He said that according to a WHO report, number of diabetic patients is on the rise in Pakistan while India and China are at position 1 and 2 respectively in respect of number of diabetes patients globally. Pakistan is at 10th position where 7,000,000 diabetes patients are being added every year, he said.
