Pakistani surgeon gets lifetime achievement award in US

Renowned hematologist and bone-marrow transplant (BMT) expert Dr Tahir Sultan Shamsi has been awarded a lifetime achievement award by a US-based organisation of Pakistani doctors and physicians, the Dow Graduate Association of North America (Dogana).
Pakistan’s ambassador to United States, Jalil Abbas Jilani, conferred the award on Dr Shamsi at the Dogana Spring Retreat held in New Jersey, US.
Dr Shamsi has been conferred the award in appreciation and recognition of his work for establishing the BMT in Pakistan, publishing over 100 publications and training 42 professionals in the field of clinical haematology, BMT and translational research.
Dogana is the alumni association of the Dow Medical College graduates, who migrated to North America for practicing medicine and surgery in public health facilities as well as privately.
Being the most senior BMT expert in Pakistan, Dr Tahir Sultan Shamsi has been appointed as the consultant to Punjab government for establishing a BMT unit at the Children Hospital Lahore, while he has also received many international and national awards for research in the field of haematology and promoting bone marrow transplants in Pakistan.
